Background

The first project I lead with Alipay.com(an Alibaba company) was the composition of "Alipay Design Guidelines". Realizing the difficulty of making designers follow guidelines when they are introduced, while composing the documents with colleagues, I started a new project called "Alipay UI Library(AUI)", which was an elegent and powerful platform to provide guidelines, documents and general assistance to designers, allowing them to easily follow guidelines, therefore increasing their efficiency.

My work has faced two obstacles:

• UI designers are not used to reviewing documents before designing. They often ignored the guidelines even when documents were well composited and organized within AUI
• UI desingners often think that their own ideas are better than the guidelines listend in AUI

These habits make it difficult to manage a centralized design process. As a result, the efficiency increases only minimally, and it is difficult to archive unified control of the quality of web UI.
